ABIA ASSEMBLY PASSES LAW EMPOWERING FEMALES TO INHERIT PROPERTY

Abia State House of Assembly has passed H.A.B. 61: The Abia State Female Persons Right of Inheritance of Property Bill, 2022, sponsored by the Speaker, Rt Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji MNSE, into Law.

The Law which was passed at Wednesday’s plenary provides for the right of females to own and inherit property in Abia State.

The Law which now allows females of Abia origin to inheritance properties in dismantles the gender barrier that has stood against women for centuries.

The current law just put in place has elicited great joy among Abians of goodwill who have been congratulating the Speaker, Rt Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji as sponsor if the Law and his colleagues for their commitment to passing it.

Abia State Female Persons Rights of Inheritance of Properties Law follows the Assembly’s recent passage of the Abia State Commission for Disabled Persons Law otherwise known as “Disability Law”.

The Abia “Disability Law”, just like the “Female Rights Law”, protects and promotes the fundamental human rights of the disabled in Abia State.
